“DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK, WE’VE BEEN HERE FOR YEARS!” - L.l. Cool J
The owners of the iconic Wallingford wateringhole, The Octopus Bar, have announced that they will officially reopen on March 15, 2021. Their new location, under construction since November of 2019, is located just two doors down from their original location and is bigger and some could say better than ever before!
You might imagine the difficulties in moving a small business in the first place and while they had all intentions of opening their doors last March, then COVID shuttered us for an unknown amount of time. Thankfully, they did their best, held on and weathered the storm (and continue to) and in respect of the current restrictions: they’ve built three new outdoor patios; the inside has been reimagined from a literal hole in the ground all the way to the ceiling including numerous cozy booths for first dates, long time friends and missed family, partitions and spacing modifications which exceed current COVID-19 guidelines, open air seating in the front, a 24 seat wrap around bar featuring our old salvaged back bar and bar top, a future dance floor and stage, brand new bathrooms, a brand new kitchen, and loads more space to dive in with us once again.
About The Octopus Bar
Always at Home • Forever at Sea, Come Aboard!
The Octopus Bar is a Seattle landmark known for our massive collection of curiosities, celebration of Seattle Maritime history, and unparalleled hospitality delivering unique and memorable cocktails, food, events and more. We relocated in November 2019 to the infamous old corner lot that once was home to Goldie’s sports bar as well as The Iron Bull. The new location is sure to call to mind the eclectic, cozy and at times creepy aesthetics of the prior Octopus location but now with three times the space! Hundreds of buoys, ropes, wood, oyster shells, life jackets and unknown treasures adorn the walls. Strategically placed tv’s hide between trunks, a top of the line sound system plays just loudly enough to promote conversation between friends enjoying happy hour as well as loud enough for future planned shows, bingo, karaoke, fundraisers, etc.
Their sister kitchen, The Salty Shack serves up fresh sandwiches, fried favorites, street style hot dogs, and good eats every night until 10pm.
Some of the featured items include:
The Lady Luck Sandwich: House made light, green goddess dressing full of fresh herbs, spices and a dash of olive oil on Macrina potato bread with crisp butter lettuce, avocado spread, our spice mix, chives, cucumber, carrot and mozzarella
The All Aboard Sandwich: Ham, turkey, bacon, cheddar, butter lettuce, tomato, onion, house made balsamic mayo and our spice mix served on Macrina sourdough
Chicago Dog: All beef dog, yellow mustard, onion, relish, pickle spear, tomato slices, Mama’s lil’s peppers, celery salt, poppy seeds on a hoagie
Please note: They are thrilled to be back up and running! They have partnered with Resy.com for encouraging guests to make reservations. Additionally, during this time of 25% limited capacity indoors and the grand re-opening of the new and bigger bar, we are asking guests to limit their time with us to 2 hours. This will allow more of their guests the opportunity to see the new space while giving them time to properly sanitize and socially distance new guests throughout the evening.
